Founded in 1991, the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies is the senior research institute at the University of British Columbia. It supports basic research through collaborative, interdisciplinary initiatives that have the potential to make important advances in knowledge. The Institute brings together scholars from UBC with distinguished researchers and experts from around the world to investigate fundamental research drawing upon and contributing to a wide range of diverse disciplines. Of overriding concern for all Institute activities is excellence in research characterized by being fundamental, interdisciplinary, innovative, and unique.

The Collaborating Centre for Prison Health and Education was established in 2006 and is a growing assembly of voices acting together to enhance social well-being and (re)integration of individuals in custody, their families and communities. The Centre for Environmental Health Equity was launched in 2010 operating out of the University of Manitoba and the Centre for Social Innovation In Toronto.  The Centre supports communities through creative research that translates knowledge into action for more equitable and just environments. Our vision is an environment where all people have equal opportunity to enjoy healthy, vibrant communities, no matter where they live.

DOXA is presented by The Documentary Media Society, a Vancouver based non-profit, charitable society (incorporated in 1998) devoted to presenting independent and innovative documentaries to Vancouver audiences. The society exists to educate the public about documentary film as an art form through DOXA Documentary Film Festival, a curated and juried festival comprised of public screenings, panel discussions, public forums and educational programs.

Nico Stagias won the Award for Best Artistic Achievement in a Short Film at the Inside Out Film Festival for two consecutive years in a row. He has directed, wrote, edited and produced over twenty promotional spots for Nickelodeon TV. This campaign, which was shot in India, Malaysia and the Philippines, won two Silver ProMax awards for Best Campaign and Best Comedic Campaign. Nico's films and videos have been broadcast on television and screened in festivals around the world. He is based out of Toronto, Canada and is a graduate of the University of British Columbia MFA program in film production.
